Denver Dishcrawl in LoHi – Wednesday, Mar 19th, 2014

Denver Dishcrawl in Lohi – Wednesday, Mar 19th, 2014

Go ahead and mark your calendars for an upcoming cool event put on by Dishcrawl.com; Denverspeax will be there, getting a better understanding of the community, local happenings, and… well, eating, of course! This event, beginning at approximately 7 pm (meeting place provided upon ticket purchase) will take us on a tour to 3 eateries in the Lohi (the lower highlands) area – what a better way to get to know a few fun places to eat and hang with new friends? The possibility of meeting chefs and other creators is high while we munch on dish crawl creations and surprises! You know you want to go…

Check out the website and sign up for this Wednesday’s crawl in LoHi. For more information on this great event, contact Maggie, Denver’s Dishcrawl ambassador, email: Maggiek@dishcrawl.com.

DenverSpeax takes on OneSpark in Jacksonville

We’re very excited to announce that we will be featured in the Hemming Plaza venue of OneSpark, the world’s crowd-funding festival being held in Jacksonville, FL, this April 9 – 13, 2014.

What’s OneSpark, you ask? OneSpark is a festival that brings creators from all over the world to one central place, Jacksonville, FL, to showcase their projects in fields like art, technology, innovation, and so forth, for a chance at $310,000 in crowd funds as well as $3.25 million in direct and capital investment.

CitySpeax in its initial phases!

We have launched a project called “CitySpeax – Your City, Your Love”, which is the expansion umbrella that sites like DenverSpeax, JaxSpeax, and NolaSpeax will be housed under. This one, central site of CitySpeax will support all of the cities under the umbrella brand, providing a one-site option to see what’s good in multiple cities around the globe.

First, there was DenverSpeax.

Next came JaxSpeax! The low down on what’s good in Jacksonville, FL.

Our latest site: NolaSpeax! The low down on what’s good in New Orleans, LA.

Why does CitySpeax matter? Good question – one that we have an easy answer for: COMMUNITY.
It strengthens local communities and economies by featuring local businesses, events, and other things to do within the given city / surrounding areas. It provides a place for small business to shine by being featured. It provides advertising that’s aimed at a small business’ budget, not a large corporate spend. It provides tourists and natives alike the access to what’s good in their targeted city with a few clicks of the mouse.

DenverSpeax, June 2013 – we’ve grown so much!

Why should you care about OneSpark? Well, because you, the reader, made this possible. Your love and support has provided us with the motivation to spread the good world all over the globe about what’s GOOD. By staying positive, and never focusing on the negative, you’ve provided us with the love and support to keep going, and to dream big. Thanks for having a positive impact on our lives, as we hope we have had on yours.

Over the next month, we will be working hard to draw up plans for our 10 x 10 booth, which will showcase our CitySpeax project. Also, we will be working on free merchandise to give away to those who visit our booth, so make sure you stop by and say hello! We will make sure to keep you updated on our progress, and the results of OneSpark.

Thanks again for being in our court, and providing the unlimited love and support that you have – it’s incredible, and we truly appreciate it.

24 hrs in San Diego

I’ve been in San Diego since 11 pm pacific time yesterday, 2/26/2014.  For the first time, I experienced the rain there which was a pleasant mist. Check out the shots I took below before moseying on back to the airport to fly home to Denver – a storm is a’brewin’!

Until next time, San Diego…

Had a Blast at Keystone Resorts and Dillon, CO

This past weekend, we stayed in a condo in Dillon, CO, just 10 minutes away from Keystone Resorts. It cost us less than $600 for a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom condo with a deck, woodburning stove, and wifi equipped condo. Check out VRBO for great deals during ski season.

The snow was great for playing in!

Amazing views at Keystone!
20140224-092515.jpg the view from the condo was also great – nice to be out of the resort town.

Even our drive home yesterday morning was incredible – the weather changed so often that it was hard to keep up!

There’s still plenty of time left in the season – make sure you get out there and check out Keystone Resorts and other neighboring mountains. Don’t ski or snowboard? No worries – other activities are also available! Snowshoeing, cross- country skiing, tubing, hiking… Get outside!

Exploring the Highlands – Seafood Landing

Seafood Landing has a great selection of seafood, and is located right in the heart of the Highlands on 32nd Ave. Credit: Kirsten Ebey, Feb 2014

Remember a few months back when we explored The Highlands and visited places like Vert Beauty & The Matador? We also visited this fantastic seafood shop located at 3457 W. 32nd Ave called Seafood Landing. Open since 1974, the staff over at Seafood Landing really know their stuff, and carry an incredible selection. With the help of Seafood Landing, we can now make a May 2014 Crawfish Boil actually happen right here in DENVER!

When speaking with the staff, we learned that the original owners of Seafood Landing actually brought seafood to Colorado about 25 years ago – we’d say that’s quite the incredible feat, and deserves to be recognized.

Seafood Landing not only sells a great variety, they also have spices, cookbooks, and other novelties to help you do it right – this is definitely a plus! Not sure what spice or recipe to follow for your purchase? Ask them! They’re happy to help make your experience enjoyable in any way possible.

We are big fans of the spices on display in this fisheye pic! Check out their marinades and spices to keep your seafood delicious and exciting. Credit: Kirsten Ebey, Feb 2014

The Omega-3 found in fish oil is fantastic for your health! Looking to lower blood pressure and help out your heart? Fish! Trying to figure out a way to burn fat faster? Pick a day or two of the week and eat fish instead of red meat as your protein. The benefits are plenty – good thing we have Seafood Landing to help us out! Stop in and say hi – check them out and support local business that supports your health.

Fighting Diseases in Your Unmentionables

What a great event for Neurofibromatosis! We’re sorry we missed this one, but look forward to joining the cause and running in our undies next year.

People’s chonies, panties, underwear, boxers, tighty-whiteys, banana hammocks, grape smugglers, skivvies, nut huts, butt huggers, and “da dunt da dunts” were all out in the open during Denver’s Third Annual Cupid’s Undie Run.
They bare all for the cause of raising money for research to combat Neurofibromatosis, a painful and debilitating genetic disorder that causes tumors to grow on nerves throughout the body. These tumors can create learning disabilities, blindness, deafness, and chronic pain. There is no known cure.
NF affects roughly 1:3,000 births in the U.S. and is in desperate need of new discovery, which is why 100% of funds raised through Cupid’s Undie Run go directly to the Children’s Tumor Foundation.

Morning photo: Snow daze …

Beautiful shot from Frisco – who’s headed up to shred today?! There’s much powder to look forward to. Be safe and have a great time!

Summit County Citizens Voice

It just keeps on coming

FRISCO —It just keeps getting deeper in Summit County, with the latest round of snow fueled by an atmospheric river — sometimes called a pineapple connection — tapping subtropical Pacific moisture from beyond Hawaii. For us in the Colorado high country it translates to snow, snow and more snow. January will go down as the third-wettest on record in Breckenridge, and the first week of February has already brought a month’s worth of snow to the area, with more moisture on the way. There’s really only one thing to do when it’s like this — get out and revel while you can!

Colorado Gifts to Send Afar

We’ve done our research by being put through the Colorado Gift Basket wringer, and are here to save you from having to do the same. Here are our two favorite companies we’ve come across that pride themselves on creating beautiful and thoughtful gifts, utilizing Colorado chefs, artists, and companies.

Completely Colorado brings local vendors together in an online venue setting. Not only can you purchase single items, but they also combine different products of different local businesses to create outstanding gift baskets at more than reasonable prices.

The website is very user friendly, and has a variety of products from food, to jewelry, to yoga mats! We purchased two of the Taste of Colorado Gift Baskets to send back home to Michigan, and can’t wait to hear the feedback!

Colorado Crafted presents carefully and creatively crafted boxes containing local artisan specialities. They scoured Colorado for delicacies so you don’t have to, grouping these delicious morsels into a variety of gift boxes for purchase. Quantities of items are limited due to the small supply created by each local artisan, creating even more of a crave for these extravagant boxed gifts. I know someone who will be impressing their boss this New Years!

There you have it – two exceptional websites offering amazing products that can be shipped to family and friends (or bosses) afar. They don’t have gifts solely for the purpose of Christmas – think of them for a friend’s birthday, or an anniversary….. or for yourself because you’re so awesome. Stop by and check them out!
