When I was a little girl, my dad would read this funny book to me about a crocodile.
His name was Lyle, and he was adopted by the Primm family in the city. He grew so big that sometimes he had to hang out in the tub. My father must have read this book to me thousands of times, and would receive the same reaction each time – endless giggles that will be engrained in my mind for as long as I live.
My dad has been gone for nearly a decade, and it’s childhood memories like Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile that help me remember his magical animation, keeping him very much alive in my mind.
I think everyone has a few memories about growing up that stick with them throughout life, sometimes being that one shining light that clears up a dark, gloomy day. Or, that one magical memory that reminds us that our loved ones who have passed truly never leave.
When I was skimming what was going on in the Denver area this upcoming weekend, I came across a children’s play of Lyle the Crocodile that is being performed at the Arvada Center for the Arts & Humanities until May 23rd, 2014. The tickets are reasonably priced, and the show lovingly entertaining for kids of all ages.
What an amazing way to introduce kids to the arts; taking a childhood story and having it performed live is such an incredible experience! Definitely one of those that will become a lasting childhood memory, much like my experience with Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile and my dad.
In loving memory of Johnny O. Ebey, my Lyle Crocodile Ambassador & Magic Man Extraordinaire.
