Pho Dong Huong – Great Food that WON’T Break the Bank

On a whim a few weeks ago, my friend Norma and I tried out Pho Dong Huong in Arvada for lunch. Becoming a trend to seek out fantastic Asian food, we figured we would try out this new place that Norma drives past often.

Nice and easy to find, Pho Dong Huong is situated right in Arvada, Colorado, complete with plenty of free parking. Inside, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with a friendly waitstaff and large windows allowing plenty of sunlight. The menu is impressive, listing numerous options for appetizers, lunches, mains, and more.

Norma and I settled on the Crab Rangoons and Shrimp Spring Rolls for our appetizers.

Each came with their own sauce, and were appropriately proportioned. Get this –

not only were both apps delicious, they each cost less than $5 bucks. What?

Yeah, I know – unheard of.

Trust me – it gets better.

While there are a plethora of noodle bowls to choose from (as well as other dishes), we both had our hearts set on the Vermicelli Noodle Bowls. With a choice of beef, pork, chicken, shrimp and combination, it was really tough to choose. As pictured above, the beef was excellent and the mini eggs rolls added on top were such a cool bonus! The bowls were giant, and rang up under $8 each. Incredible. They were the type of meals you come across that even though your stomach absolutely cannot hold anything additional, you keep eating because the ingredients and flavors are so delicious. How is this possible under $10 per dish? Honestly, I couldn’t tell you. You’ll just have to try it out yourself.

Pho Dong Huong is seriously a hidden gem that you must check out for some legit Chinese food. Also, as described, the prices are amazing, so you won’t break the bank visiting! Check it out and let us know what you think.

Snow in October? That’s new…

20131018-124944.jpg The picture reflects my morning – beautiful, fluffy snow frosting everything in sight. In Michigan, this would be Christmas, if we were lucky enough to get snow, so I found myself in quite the festive mood. How long will it take me to set up tree?

Back to reality: it is October!
Definitely not used to the whole snow-before-Halloween thing, but it was fantastic to see this morning. I’ll never forget this morning, actually.

Fast-forward to this afternoon: the sun is high in the sky, and all of the snow has disappeared.

Colorado, you are crafty and awesome.

Sometimes you just need a break. Luckily, working in Wheat Ridge provides many opportunities to get outdoors for a short hike, walk, or ride at lunch. I’ve been exploring the trails near the office, and found Van Bibber Park a few blocks away.

To locate this park, here’s the address to both the main and west trailheads:

Main: 5575 Ward Road, Arvada
West:  Indiana and 56th Avenue, Arvada

In addition to soft trail stretching 3.8 miles, there is also a concrete path spanning approximately 1.5 miles.

The trail is fairly easy to moderate, and extremely beautiful with incredible views of the nearby mountains. In the middle of the day, I experienced next to no traffic on the trails, both soft and concrete.

If you’re looking for a way to cut loose for an hour or less, this place is a great way to get out, take in the fresh air, and press the reset button on your day. Give it a shot! Also, if family and friends are visiting, this is a great beginner trail that is equally rewarding physically and aesthetically.
